The Question Behind Everything

For more than 25 years, one question has guided my work.

What helps people thrive?

As a young woman studying Organizational Development, I became fascinated by people.

  • ·Why do some people come alive in their work and relationships while others struggle?
  • ·Why do some grow through adversity while others become stuck?
  • ·Why do some teams thrive while others fall apart?
  • ·Why do some leaders inspire growth while others diminish it?

Those questions stayed with me.

Over the years, they led me into leadership development, executive coaching, Positive Psychology, and the study of human flourishing. I've explored them inside organizations including Johnson & Johnson, Bayer, Perrigo, Ascensia, and L'Oréal.

I've explored them through leadership teams navigating change, individuals facing important transitions, and organizations working to create cultures where people and performance thrive.

And I've explored them through my own experiences of challenge, growth, reinvention, and resilience.

Over time, I've come to believe that leadership, teams, organizational culture, and resilience are not separate conversations. They're connected. Different expressions of the same underlying question:

What helps people continue to grow, contribute, connect, and perform at their best when life doesn't go according to plan?

What I Believe

Five things, distilled over twenty-five years.

  1. 01
Leadership isn't about having all the answers. It's about creating environments where people can do their best thinking, contribute their best ideas, and bring their best selves to the work.
  2. 02
Most team friction is something else in disguise.Trust. Clarity. Communication. Fear. The challenge isn't always what people are arguing about. It's what they're not talking about.
  3. 03
Performance and wellbeing don't compete. For years we've acted as though they did. The strongest organizations understand they're connected. People do their best work when they are challenged, supported, trusted, and able to contribute in meaningful ways.
  4. 04
Understanding an idea and living it are two very different things.Insight matters. Awareness matters. But the real work happens in practice. That's where learning becomes wisdom.
  5. 05
Curiosity may be the most underrated leadership skill. The leaders I've admired most never assumed they had the full picture. They stayed curious. They kept learning. They kept listening.

Organizations I've had the privilege to work with
